A big box comes knocking response from Maleny resident

Store boycott still on
The Woolworths spokeswoman Clare Buchanan is dreaming if she thinks Maleny Woolworths is “trading very, very well” (“A big box comes knocking”, July 26-27).
The boycott by the majority of Maleny locals is still going strong, which is why Woolworths won’t release turnover figures for its Maleny supermarket in its inhouse newsletter. Most of the cars parked outside belong to its staff, or patrons of the adjacent hotel, who use the car park in contravention of the Woolworths regulations, so the supermarket looks better patronised than it actually is.
Ms Buchanan’s comment that “we fully appreciate uniqueness is something that should be protected” is an insult to the residents of the Maleny region who fought so hard to protect our town and platypus colonies from the “big box” intrusion beside Obi Obi Creek.
I know I am not alone in wishing the residents of Mullumbimby good luck in protecting the uniqueness of their town.
